A cyclist in his 60s died after a collision with a car on the A4440 Swinesherd Way on Friday night. Police want witnesses and dashcam footage, ref 574i.
A man in his 60s riding a bicycle has died after a collision with a car on the A4440 Swinesherd Way in Worcester.
It happened at around 10.15pm on Friday 25 September. West Mercia Police said the cyclist suffered serious injuries and was declared dead at the scene a short time later, despite the efforts of the emergency services. (West Mercia Police, witness appeal, 26 September 2026)
The car was a white Suzuki Swift. The force said it was travelling along the A4440 from the Whittington Road junction onto Swinesherd Way, towards the junction with the A44, when it was in collision with the bicycle.
The driver, a 17-year-old girl, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. The force said she is helping police with their enquiries. An arrest is not a charge, and nobody has been charged.
The police have not named the man who died.
Can you help?
The force is asking for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward. It particularly wants to hear from:
- anyone who saw the car or the bicycle before the collision
- drivers with dashcam footage of Swinesherd Way or Whittington Road around 10.15pm on Friday 25 September

The road
Swinesherd Way is part of the A4440 Southern Link Road, the dual carriageway that carries traffic round the south-eastern edge of the city near Whittington and M5 junction 7. The stretch crosses the boundary between the Worcester city council area and Wychavon.
We checked the Department for Transport’s road casualty records, known as STATS19, against the line of the road. Between 2021 and 2025, six injury collisions reported to the police were recorded on Swinesherd Way itself. All six were classed as slight. Three of the people hurt in them were cyclists, all with slight injuries. No one was killed or seriously injured on the road in those five years. (Department for Transport, road casualty statistics, last five years)
Cyclists hurt across Worcester
Across the whole Worcester city council area, the same records show 91 cyclists hurt in reported collisions over those five years:
- 22 seriously injured
- 69 slightly injured
- none killed
The yearly totals were 16 in 2021, 25 in 2022, 15 in 2023, 19 in 2024 and 16 in 2025. Worcester recorded six fatal road collisions of any kind in those five years, and none of them killed a cyclist.
Two caveats apply to these figures. STATS19 counts only collisions reported to the police in which somebody was hurt, so near misses and damage-only crashes are missing. And the newest year can still be revised.
What it means for you
- If you drove the A4440 on Friday night, check your dashcam for anything between the Whittington Road junction and the A44 around 10.15pm, and send it to the email above with the incident number.
- Planned closures on the city’s roads for the next fortnight, including Tolladine Road and Kilbury Drive, are on our Worcester roadworks and travel page.
- Please do not speculate about the man or the driver on social media while the police investigation continues. Anything you saw belongs with the collision unit.
We will report any charging decision the force publishes.
